TOURNAMENT PROCEDURES
The WGA is an association of women who play 18 holes of golf every Tuesday morning in an 8:30 shotgun start followed by lunch. All players must check in at the tournament desk by 8:00 am. At this time, you may sign up for the following week by putting you initials beside your name. After Tuesday, this sign-up sheet will be posted in the locker room on the 18 Hole bulletin board through Sunday. All cancellations should be made before 9:00 am Monday morning. In case of a last minute emergency, call the pro shop before 7:30 am.
Pairings and hole assignments are posted on Monday afternoon on the club house and parking lot bulletin boards but may be subject to last minute changes. Pairings may also be accessed on the golf page of the Palm Aire website.
At the time of check-in, the captain, the first person listed on the score card, will pick up the scorecards for her foursome. You also have the opportunity to fill out a sheet for chip ins, at the cost of a quarter for play that day. After lunch following play, announcements are made for winners of the day, chip ins, birdies and any other special announcements regarding the WGA.
In the case of inclement weather, the pro shop will make the final determination to cancel play. At least three groups (threesomes or foursomes) must complete play in order for prize money to be awarded.
The Membership Directory, which can be picked up in the pro shop, is provided for you which is a directory of members and also a calendar of games for each Tuesday. The WGA also sponsors special tournaments throughout the year which are listed below.
By being a member of the WGA, you are also eligible to join any of our three competitive interclub organizations—Golf Coast League, Mid Golf Association for West Coast Women’s Golf Association. Each association has different handicap index requirements and plays a different type of game. A brief explanation of each group is below.

BUDDY'S TOURNAMENTS
The Buddy tournaments are conducted by the Pro Shop and are held on the first Saturday of every month. Sign-up sheets are posted outside the Pro Shop two weeks in advance.
INTER-CLUB REPRESENTATIVES
Gulf Coast Golf League...Becky Romich
The Gulf Coast League is a team event based on the Stableford Point System. There are a total of 11 teams from private clubs which meet from October through mid-April. An index of 24.6 or lower is required to become a member of the team. Palm Aire Country Club is one of the founding members of Gulf Coast Golf which has been in existence for over 25 years. Cost of play includes golf, cart, lunch and prizes. If you are interested in joining the Palm Aire team, please contact the representative.
Mid Gulf Women's Golf Association...Sandy Heerman
The Mid Gulf Women's Golf Association inaugural event took place in October of 1962 and Palm Aire (formerly Desoto Lakes) was one of the founding clubs. The Association plays an individual low gross and low net format at 12 local, private clubs. A handicap index of 26.4 or lower is required to join the Association and a player must compete in 6 out of the 12 tournaments to maintain her membership. Play is usually on Mondays and Fridays from October to May. Cost of play includes golf, cart, lunch and prizes. West Coast Women's Golf Association...Barb Harrison
The West Coast Women's Golf Association is an individual low gross event. An index of 16.6 prior to one month of joining is required to become a member. West Coast is played year round, approximately two times a month from May through April and the courses are as far south as Sarasota and to the north to Tampa. Two of the days are guest days and two are couples events. Cost of play includes golf, cart, lunch and prizes. If you are interested in joining West Coast, please contact the representative.
